The Silenced Voice
(2006)
Text
A text focused on the voice as material.
The Silenced Voice is an element of the Breach project, an ongoing series of performances for voice and prepared sound. The text was developed as a demonstrative companion to the Breach performances which explore strategies for ‘silencing’ language, utilising the human voice as a medium for exploring ways in which the voice itself can be used to undermine the codes which govern discourse.
The piece has been performed at Tate Britain, London (for Tate Late: The Turner Prize), Litteraturhuset, Oslo (for Ultima festival), and Arnolfini Gallery, Bristol (for the event IT IS YOU: Symposium).
The text Resisting Language (The Silenced Voice) can be read here.
